Manipur - A Surge of Violence

Kai Neu, a nurse, and Thanghoulal, a driver, represent many from the Kuki-Zomi tribes who have suffered ceaseless violence since May 3, 2023, in Manipur, a state in Northeast India. They inhabit Churachandpur district, which remained inaccessible with no Internet connectivity either. Their suffering had largely been unacknowledged until the release of this documentary, a visual commentary. The majority of media outlets had disseminated information derived primarily from Imphal, the capital and the Meitei community's stronghold. This film intends to show the lesser-known anguish of the tribal people, triggered by the violent surge as part of a longstanding ethnic conflict further compounded by inadequate and biased governance.
